Please join the Trinity Cathedral Choir on Sunday, November 1 at the 11:15 am Eucharist as we sing the “Requiem” Mass by Gabriel Fauré. Fauré (1845 – 1924) was one of the foremost French musicians of his generation. A highly gifted organist, pianist, and composer, he later became Director of the Paris Conservatory, influencing many musicians of the next generation including Maurice Ravel. He was for many years the organist of the church of Le Madeleine in Paris, in succession to his teacher Camille Saint-Saens.
His Requiem was composed in 1888 “for the pure pleasure of it.” In it he avoids the foreboding mood of many Requiem settings of the time, for a more gentle melodic style. It certainly remains his most beautiful and enduring work. We will be using a special chamber orchestration of the work utilizing organ, harp, violin, and cello accompaniment, realized by David Hill. The Cathedral Choir is conducted by Canon David Link, Cathedral Organist & Choirmaster. The choir will be assisted by harpist Beverly Wessner-Hoehn, violinist Victoria Tognozzi, and cellist Leo Gravin.
