It has been my privilege for many years, to see the good work that the River City Food bank does in the Sacramento area. RCFB is the oldest continuously operating food bank in our community, and the only food bank in our area which is open every week day to provide food to anyone experiencing hunger in Sacramento County.
RCFB was started forty-six years ago as River City Community Services. It originally functioned out of St Paul’s Episcopal Church downtown, and then moved to its own location on 27th Street, next door to Trinity Cathedral. In 2010 the food bank burned to the ground, following an arson fire, which also destroyed the offices of the Bishop of our Diocese. After being temporarily housed at Trinity Cathedral, and then another temporary location, a new permanent building was purchased on 28th Street.
