Join us in our celebration of All Saints Sunday at the 11:15 am Eucharist, as the Cathedral Choir sings the “Missa Secunda” (second mass) by Renaissance composer Hans Leo Hassler. This tuneful short mass setting is sung in Latin, and is one of the most often sung of mass settings from the era. In it, he shows complete mastery of writing in the contrapuntal style, reflecting the skill of his teacher Andrea Gabrieli. He is often credited with bringing the Venetian contrapuntal style north of the Alps, and was the Kappelmeister to Christian II, Elector of Saxony.
Also included will be “The Beatitudes” sung to an old Russian chant, and all of your favorite All Saints Day hymns.
On Sunday afternoon (November 3) at 4:00 pm, The Trinity Cathedral Music Series presents the McAllister-Keller guitar duo in concert at Trinity Cathedral. Classical guitarists Colin McAllister and Derek Keller present a concert of contemporary music including compositions by Steve Reich, Arnold Schoenberg, Derek Keller, and others. The duo have been featured artists at the Festival of New American Music at California State University, as well as many other distinguished venues across the United States. Please join us! Suggested donation at the door: $15 general, $10 students & seniors, aged 10 and under free.
Trinity Cathedral is located at 2620 Capitol Avenue at 27th Street, in mid-town Sacramento, and the public is warmly invited to both of these events.
