Exploring Non-Violence in an Age of Fear

On Thursday, May 7th, the Thursday Lunch Bunch will begin a weekly series of study on the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We will start with the documentary of his life and follow with a study of his writings titled, “Letters and Papers from Prison”. The film, BONHOEFFER, tells the dramatic story of one of the greatest theologians of the 20th century, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, his life and his resistance to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Bonhoeffer challenged his church to stand with the Jews in their time of need. Learning of the death camps, Bonhoeffer’s religious convictions led him to the seemingly paradoxical conclusion that the only ethical solution was to conspire to assassinate Hitler. The focus of this series will be on how we live in the tension of Jesus’ teaching to love our enemies and the need to challenge systems that threaten the very safety of others. All are welcome. Canon Walker, Facilitator.
